Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry: statement of the State Department is blackmail
Statements having the nature of interference in the course of the investigation, politicizing lawsuits and appeals to the courts to make other decisions are disrespectful to the sovereignty of Azerbaijan, said a spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, Elman Abdullayev , commenting on the statement by the U.S. State Department, calling for the release of Anar Mammadov, the head of the Election Monitoring and Democracy Center.
"This is absolutely unacceptable, unfounded, and is open blackmail ," reads the statement by Abdullayev.
He reiterated statements of the investigating authorities that the arrest of Mammadov has no political background, and is criminal by nature .
