B.Brink: energy, security and democracy are priorities of the United States
On 24 November Bridget Brink , Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs and Alina Raman, coordinator of the Department of State on Assistance to Europe and Eurasia, held briefing at the US Embassy following the visit to Azerbaijan. Brink noted that their visit was followed immediately after the military and trade missions from the United States.
She called the visit fruitful meetings with the President, Foreign Minister, an advisor on security, civil society activists.
"The broad range of US relations with Azerbaijan are questions of energy security, the economy, democracy and human rights. Part of the relationship is that US financial assistance, which will continue and will cover three areas: energy, security, democracy and human rights," said Brink.
In turn, Romanowski said that the US aid helps Azerbaijan to develop in the field of security and democracy.
She stressed that the United States does not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent and sovereign structure. The final status of the Nagorno Karabakh is the subject of the negotiation process on the international plane in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.
With regard to the assistance of the State Department toKarabakh, it comes down to clear the area of mines. Assistance is provided to specific companies, bypassing the de-facto authorities of NK, emphasized Romanowski; and $30 million have been allocated for Azerbaijan for mine clearance. -03В-
