British Ambassador: We Should Have Talked More About Strength of British Premier League
Baku / 27.05.19 / Turan: Azerbaijan, in particular Baku, quite often organizes big sports events, such as Formula-1, judo championships and many others. Baku has a stadium that meets international standards.
The British Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Carol Crofts, said this at a press conference on Monday, responding to a request from Turan to express an attitude to the discontent sounded in the British media, as well as from the Arsenal FC over holding the European League final in Baku.
"Citizens of Britain quite often come to Baku for various sports events. Azerbaijan has ample opportunities for sports events. At the same time, an average of 4,000-5,000 British citizens live and work in Azerbaijan," the Ambassador said.
Answering the question of journalists if the behavior of the British media, which mixed sport and politics, was correct, the Ambassador stressed that she agreed that "emphasis should have been placed on the sports aspect of the issue."
"It was necessary to talk more about football, about the fact that two English clubs will play in the final, which speaks of the strength of the English Premier League," the Ambassador said.
When asked about her personal football preferences, the Ambassador said she was from a city close to Manchester.
"Residents of our city are traditionally fans of either FC Manchester United, or FC Manchester City. Personally, I don"t support anyone, but my son is a Manchester United fan." -71C-
