By-elections to Parliament in Agdash Constituency No 90
Today is the vote on the by-elections to the Milli Majlis in the 90th Agdash constituency. Fighting for the parliamentary mandate are seven candidates. Among them there is protégé of the ruling party New Azerbaijan, the first deputy head of the Executive Authority of the Agdash district Javid Osmanov and the leader of the opposition party Umid (Hope), Igbal Aghazadeh.
The other five candidates are nonpartisan: the teacher of the Tofigi rural school Rashad Abdullayev, the security officer of Azeravtoyol JSC Elmir Gezalov, the inspector of the Agdash branch of Azerpost LLC Rashid Gezalov, the doctor of the Agdash Central District Hospital Ali Hagverdiyev, and the teacher of the Agdash Liberal Arts College Anar Ibrahimli.
It is expected that the main battle will be between Osmanov and Aghazadeh.
The voting started at 8.00 a.m. and will end at 19.00. Late in the evening the CEC website will publish the preliminary data on the results of the vote.
The Constituency Election Commission is to submit the final report to CEC 48 hours after the completion of the election.
Within 20 days, CEC will check and announce the election results. Furthermore, the Constitutional Court within 10 days will check and validate the election results.
The winner will be the candidate who receives the largest number of votes.
In the elections in 2015 Aghazadeh also ran for MP in the Khatai district of Baku, but, according to official figures, he did not pass to the parliament. Aghazadeh challenged the results of the vote, but failed to achieve their revision.
By-elections for the 90th constituency of Agdash were appointed in connection with the cancellation of the results of the November 1, 2015 elections, which were won by the head of AG Bank Chingiz Asadullayev. The reason for the cancellation was violations identified during the voting. However, for dozens of other districts, where the opposition candidates reported numerous violations, such a decision was not taken. According to unofficial information, the reason for the cancellation of the election results in Agdash was Asadullayev’s proximity to the disgraced former Minister of National Security Eldar Mahmudov. -06D--
