Candidate Facing Obstacles in Election Campaign
A candidate in the municipal elections for the 23rd Nasimi-Sabail electoral district, activist Djamila Alisheva, has reported administrative barriers in conducting her campaign. She claims that the district election commission is refusing to provide the necessary forms for her authorized representatives.
"We went to collect the application forms yesterday, but the head of the district election commission, Alibala Guliyev, said that the forms were out of stock. Today we came again, and he again claimed there were no forms. We complained to the Central Election Commission, and they called Alibala Guliyev, but the calls did not reach him. Now he is not even at the office," said Alisheva. The forms for authorized representatives must first be filled out and then notarized. Only after that can campaigning begin. Attempts by Turan's correspondent to contact Alibala Guliyev were futile. Municipal elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for January 29.
