Civil society activists appeal to the European Court of Human Rights
A group of civil society activists of Azerbaijan appealed to the European Court of Human Rights to urgently examine the case of Elnur Seyidov, who was arrested for political reasons, the deputy head of the Yasamal branch of "Technikabank".
He is a relative of the leader of the Popular Front Party, Ali Kerimli, and this is the real reason for his arrest, the letter noted. In jail Seyidov has health problems, which gives reason to consider his case out of turn.
In particular, the authors of the appeal request to cancel the decision on preventive measure the arrest, and demand his release. The appeal was signed by many well-known human rights activists.
One of the signatories, Samir Kazimli, said that the recent death of Vagif Abdullayev, the Deputy Chairman of the Islamic Party in custody, testifies of inhumane treatment of political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
At the present time, serious health problems have a few political prisoners: Vidadi Iskenderov, Shahin Hasanli, Nemat Panahli, and Hilal Mamedov.
According to Kazimli similar appeal will be sent shortly to the President of Azerbaijan and the head of the Red Cross in Azerbaijan. -02D-
