Baku / 30.12.20 / Turan: The Center for National Strategic Thought (CNST) of Azerbaijan called on political parties, public associations, and influential persons in society for national unity in order to completely liberate Karabakh.

The controversial and eventful year 2020 is coming to an end and the victorious Patriotic War became its crown, the Center's address says.

“It was won at the cost of the lives of martyrs, the blood of the wounded, the heroism of the soldiers, the courage of the officers, the decisions of the generals, the political will of the authorities, the patriotism of the democratic camp, the solidarity of compatriots all over the world, starting with South Azerbaijan, and the military-political support of the allies and, first of all, Turkey. In the end, the people became the author of the victory, for all the above indicators were the fruit of national will and unity,” the document further emphasizes.

However, the threefold statement of November 10 by the heads of Azerbaijan, Armenia and the Russian Federation, which formalized the end of the war and the subsequent period, showed the existence of a greater need for the continuation of national unity.

For despite the magnificent successes of the 44-day war - the liberation of 7 regions, part of Nagorno-Karabakh, including Shusha, the capture of the Iranian border under full control, and the announcement of the opening of the road to Nakhchivan, Russia achieved the re-entry of troops into the territory of Azerbaijan, and Khankendi and Khojaly came under its control, as well as Khojavend, Askeran and a number of other territories.

Thus, despite the great successes, the complete liberation of Karabakh from the occupation has not yet been achieved.

The revanchist statements of the political circles of Armenia, their statements that “we lost not the war, but the battle,” should not be overlooked.

“The Russian army came to our lands not to give Karabakh to Armenia or to give it to Azerbaijan. Moscow's goal is to make both countries as dependent on itself as possible, and to demonstrate strength to the region and the world,” the document further says.

“As a result, despite the elimination of the previous line of contact between the Azerbaijani and Armenian armies, a new one appeared - between our troops and the Russian peacekeepers, and instead of the previous status quo a new status quo emerged,” the appeal says.

The CNST believes that the answer to the question "What to do?" can be found together.

The Center believes that the main goal should be to solve a two-pronged task - to achieve the withdrawal of the Russian military from the Azerbaijani lands and to achieve full sovereignty over the country's territories.

For this, it is necessary not to calm down and, knowing about the revanchist aspirations of the enemy and its patrons, to further strengthen the army and to purchase modern weapons.

The CNST also considers it important to explain to the people the true occupation essence of the “Russian peacekeepers”, who do not withdraw terrorist groups from the territory of Azerbaijan, moreover, they turn a blind eye to the arrival of new armed groups from Armenia.

It is also necessary to achieve registration of victories and successes of Azerbaijan and acceptance of this by the patrons of the enemy.

Reconstruction and settlement of the occupied territories with ensuring their reliable protection is also a priority task.

It is important to carry out reforms to ensure a free and dignified life for citizens, as well as to strengthen the position of Azerbaijan in the international arena, the accession of political and economic freedoms, the creation of a strong local government, and the formation of a truly independent parliament and judiciary.

It is proposed to strengthen economic, political-diplomatic and military-strategic cooperation with all allies, first of all Turkey.

It is necessary to develop ties with the world community, leading international organizations, and mutual understanding with the great powers.

“The path to the full provision of Azerbaijan's sovereignty over Karabakh does not go through Moscow's liking. No matter how hard Azerbaijan tries to please the Kremlin, Armenia will achieve better results with less effort. All these efforts will not lead to the fact that either of these two countries will own Karabakh, but will increase their dependence on Russia. Therefore, one should not take a deliberately losing position - by drawing closer to Russia, to achieve the imaginary loneliness of Armenia, and no matter how difficult it may seem. try to normalize relations with Armenia in order to withdraw the "peacekeepers" from the region.

The Azerbaijani and Armenian elites must understand that we must not give the future of our countries and peoples to the monopoly of Moscow. We, being adherents of universal human values, international law, democratic principles, human rights, based on the sovereignty and the territories of the two states recognized by the UN, should become guarantors of security and social and economic development of each other and the region as a whole,” the address says.

The CNST calls on the parties and the public to discuss these issues, to cooperate for the development of Azerbaijan in conditions of tranquility, the achievement of a just and sustainable peace in the region and its worthy place in the modern world.

* The CNST was established in 2014 under the leadership of the ex-speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament and the former head of the Musavat party Isa Gambar. --06D–
