Convention Recognizes Cooperation of Azerbaijan with Foreign Companies in Caspian
Baku / 14.08.18 / Turan: The first meeting of the high-level special working group under the auspices of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Caspian states will be held in Baku in autumn in order to implement the provisions of the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea.
This was reported by Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov in an interview with the state news agency AZERTAJ. "Currently, the main task assigned to this group is to prepare an agreement on the methodology for establishing direct baselines," Khalafov said.
According to the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, each side will establish territorial waters that do not exceed 15 nautical miles in width. They will be measured from the baselines defined in accordance with this document.
Khalafov stressed that the Convention recognizes Azerbaijan's cooperation with foreign companies and corporations in the implementation of projects in the Caspian Sea and creates opportunities for continuing and expanding them. -06D--
