Convicted former prosecutor of Ismayilli region and his assistant
Baku /01.11.18/Turan: Former prosecutor of the Ismayilli region, Ulvi Abbasov, was sentenced to 9 years in prison, his assistant Faig Guliyev to 8 years. This decision was made on November 1 by the Sheki Court of Grave Crimes. Former prosecutor has been convicted under the Article 308 (abuse of power) and 311 (receiving a bribe) of the Criminal Code. His assistant was charged only with receiving a bribe. Both have denied the charges. Abbasov and Guliyev were arrested in July in connection with the investigation into the illegal development of building materials fields. So, on July 14, 2018, in the building of the Prosecutor"s Office of the Ismayilli district, Guliyev received a bribe on a large scale from the chairman of the board of İsmayıllı Tikinti 27, Azad Aliyev, owner of a quarry producing sand and rubble. The bribe was given in exchange for not holding accountable for illegal actions. On November 13, representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Afghan Taliban held talks in Baku as part of the COP29 conference. According to a report by Turan correspondent, the discussions took place behind closed doors and lasted for over an hour. No statements were made to the press following the meeting. Furthermore, conference security prevented journalists from asking questions to the meeting participants.
