Court Leaves Young Musavat Member Girl in Custody
The Sumgayit Court of Appeal under the chairmanship of Rasim Iskenderov dismissed the appeal from Nigar Yagublu, daughter of the deputy chairman of the Musavat Party, Tofig Yagublu, today.
The lawyer Osman Kazimov told Turan that the judge left the Yagublu in custody without any reason. The trial was held behind closed doors, and the arrested girl was not brought to court.
According to the lawyer, the judge decided to leave Yagublu in custody, despite the fact that the party suffered has no claim to her.
The attorney intends to file a motion to change the measure of restraint from arrest to house arrest for Yagublu.
Recall that Yagublu was arrested under article 263.2 (violation of the transport operation, which caused the victim's death by negligence).
The reason for her arrest was the collision of a passenger car with Kamaz (a heavy truck) on the outskirts of Baku on September 7, which caused the death of an activist of Musavat, Aydin Adzhalov. The investigation alleges that Yagublu was at the wheel, but she argues that car was operated by the owner, Aydin Adzhalov.
Yagublu was arrested as a suspect on September 10 for a two-month period of pending investigation. However, the Kamaz driver, who collided with the Adjalov car, was not brought to justice. All this gives reason to believe that the arrest of Yagublu was ordered.
If she is found guilty, she could face up to three years in jail. -16D-
