Court of Appeal approved Anar Mamedli"s arrest
Baku/14.03.14/Turan : Today, Baku Appellate Court dismissed the complaint from the arrested head of the Election Monitoring Center Anar Mamedli. The complaint was filed for the extension of his arrest for another three months .
In its decision the Court of Appeal upheld the trial court's decision and did not satisfy the claim from Mamedli.
* Anar Mamedli was arrested on December 16, 2013 on charges of illegal business , tax evasion , and abuse of office. The court sanctioned his arrest for three months. Amnesty International has recognized Mamedli "prisoner of conscience". Meanwhile, Front Line Defenders included him in the list of 12 human right defenders, in defense of which they launched a campaign dedicated to the Olympic Games in Sochi. The real reason for the arrest of Mamedli was his exposing the fraud of the authorities during the presidential elections in Azerbaijan in October last year . -16B04-
