Court of Appeal Upheld Sentence on Khadija Ismayilova
On Thursday, the Baku Court of Appeal (BCA) upheld the verdict on the appointment of journalist Khadija Ismayilova administrative penalty of 220 hours of community service.
Recall that for participating in an unauthorized protest rally on February 26 in Baku Ismayilova was fined in the amount of 400 manats. She basically refused to pay a fine for the illegality of the decision of the court. On June 10 the Binagadi district court sentenced Ismayilova to an alternative administrative penalty of 220 hours of community service. She was offered to sweep the streets, to which she agreed, stating that she would perform work under the slogan "Cleanse the country of filth."
After that, to do the cleaning Ismayilova was sent to the rehabilitation center.
The journalist refused to do the job and motivated her decision not to fulfill it with their desire to punish her in a space closed to the public, referring to possible provocations.
She filed an appeal, which was not granted.
The lawyer Anar Gasymly said the judgment was biased, since many court decisions on compensation of damage to citizens are not enforced.
According to him, the decision of the Court of Appeal will be filed a complaint to the Strasbourg Judges. -0-
