ART FOR DEMOCRACY campaign announces a new contest
Art for Democracy campaign announced the beginning of the second contest "Sing for Democracy". The first competition under the same name held on 10 December, 2012 was dedicated to the Human Rights Day.
The competition is aimed at promoting music through the priorities and values of human rights in Azerbaijan. The presentation of the first competition was attended by several foreign ambassadors and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Thomas Melia. The official Baku was indignant with the contest, and described the incident as interference in the internal affairs of the country. Later, one of the activists of the campaign, a citizen of the United States and the United Kingdom, Rebecca Vincent, was actually expelled from Azerbaijan.
The contest is open to musicians up to 40 years old. Participation of Azerbaijani musicians is allowed, but the songs should be in Azerbaijani. Participants may submit only one work.
