Court of Appeals Keeps NIDA Member in Custody

Today the Baku Court of Appeal considered a request by NIDA activist Rashadat Akhundov for a dismissal of his arrest.

The court denied the complaint, Turan was told by lawyer Rashid Hajily. According to him, the court's decision is unreasonable, as the investigation has not provided the facts and grounds to detain Akhundov in custody.

"In such a situation, the court was required to vacate Akhundov even before the merits of the case in court," said the lawyer.

Rashadat Akhundov is one of seven members of the NIDA movement who have been arrested and charged with possession of explosives and narcotics. They are charged with the possession of explosives and narcotics at the disorder during the protest on March 10 against soldiers' deaths.

Three young men were arrested before the action, and the rest were arrested in the following weeks. Amnesty International recognized them as prisoners of conscience and demanded their immediate release. -16B06-
