Defamation and freedom of expression to be discussed in Baku
European practices on defamation and freedom of expression will be discussed at a round-table event in the Azerbaijani capital Baku on 31 May. The conference, organised in the framework of a joint Eu/Council of Europe (CoE) project, in cooperation with the Azerbaijani Press Council, is to provide a platform for open discussions on how to improve national legislation concerning defamation and journalistic practice in the country.
About 50 representatives from state authorities, academia, media professionals, civil society and international organisations will attend the event. The round-table discussion takes place within the framework of the joint EU/CoE project on freedom of expression and media freedom in Azerbaijan implemented by EU/CoE Programmatic Cooperation Framework, says a press release of the EU Neighbourhood Info. -02D-
