Does Armenia want to import Iranian gas?
Tehran/18.12.18/Turan: Armenian Ambassador to Tehran, Artashes Tumanyan, said on Monday in Tehran that Yerevan is interested in purchasing Iranian gas. According to the IRNA news agency, this opinion was voiced during the meeting entitled "Iran-Armenia Relations: Opportunities and Outflows."
He also expressed the readiness of Armenia to develop electricity exports from Iran, expressing the hope that the two countries' trade turnover will increase in the near future.
The ambassador also said that after the change of power in Armenia, the external course of the country did not change, despite Washington"s pressure on Yerevan to limit relations with Tehran. According to Tumanyan, the Americans understood the significance of Armenia"s ties with Iran.
It should be noted that the gas market of Armenia is the monopoly of Russia, which has always opposed Tehran"s attempts to enter the Armenian market. Therefore, the idea of getting cheaper gas from Iran will mean a change in the external political course of Yerevan.
Being in opposition to ex-President Serzh Sargsyan, supporters of Nikol Pashinyan accused the authorities of buying up expensive gas from Russia in Armenia, instead of getting it at a cheap price from Iran. -02D-
