ECHR fined the Azerbaijani government for 140,000 Euro
The European Court of Human Rights today announced decisions on cases of 11 applicants from Azerbaijan. From five of the applicants were received decisions on two complaints, the lawyer told Turan Asabali Mustafayev, representing the interests of 10 applicants.
In particular, in the framework of the common case the ECHR upheld complaints of opposition activists: Bayram Bayramov, Majid Mejidli, Vidadi Iskenderov, Ikram Israfilov, Hikmet Agayev and Rovshan Guliyev, sentenced to administrative arrest up to 15 days for taking part in peaceful protests in Baku on July 31, 2010 , at 2 and April 17, 2011
The court found a violation of their rights under the Articles 6 (right to a fair trial), 10 (freedom of expression) and 11 (freedom of assembly).
In addition, the ECHR found a violation of rights of Muhammad Mejidli of arrests of opposition rallies July 31, 2010 and March 10, 2013 under the same Articles.
The ECHR also upheld complaints of the deputy chairman of PFPA Gozel Bayramli to her arbitrary arrest during protests on 17 April, 2011 and on 26 January, 2013 and the use of violence by the police.
The ECHR also found violations of the rights of the activist Tural Abbasli in connection with its administrative arrests on 20 October, 2012 and May 7, 2014.
The Strasbourg Court granted the appeal of Jamil Hajiyev (participation in rallies on 17 November, 2012 and on 26 January, 2013) and Babek Hasanov (participation in the rallies on 17 November 2012 and on 10 March, 2013).
In general, the ECHR found compensation for claimants amounting 138,870 euros and another 9,700 euros in compensation of court costs. -03B06--

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.

During the ongoing COP29 climate conference in Baku on November 14, a group of activists staged a protest condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The activists also denounced countries that supply oil and weapons to nations waging aggressive wars. The protest featured placards with slogans such as: "From fossil fuels to peace!", "End war crimes!", "Punish the aggressor!", and "Phase out fossil fuel use to achieve peace!" among others.
