Elmar Mammadyarov: Who Knows What Happens Tomorrow
Baku is not satisfied with the associate agreement with the EU, as the country is not a member of the World Trade Association, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said in an interview with the television channel Russia 24.
According to him, Baku will build strategic relations with Brussels. "The strategy consists of building a strategic partnership with the EU," the minister said, without explaining what exactly this strategy is.
Asked about the possible accession of Azerbaijan to the Eurasian Economic Union, the minister said that Baku does not exclude cooperation with EAEU, but only after the settlement of the conflict with Armenia.
"Never Say Never Again and all options should be kept in mind," said Mammadyarov.
He said "the current administration of Azerbaijan considers its foreign policy doctrine based on national interests."
With respect to EAEU a very important role is played by the Customs Union. "The presence of the territories occupied by Armenia does not allow us to co-exist in the Customs Union. If Armenia withdraws its troops and the border is opened, if there is normalization of the situation and the economic component is set up between Armenia and Azerbaijan, who knows what will happen tomorrow," said Mammadyarov. -02D-
