EU promotes sanitary and phytosanitary measures in Azerbaijan
Baku/22.05.21/Turan: Within the framework of the twinning project “Strengthening sanitary and phytosanitary measures in Azerbaijan”, held with the support of the European Union (EU), a meeting of the committee was held in the format of a video conference, the Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AQTA) reports.
At the meeting, the advisor to the Twinning resident Gintas Lapinskas informed that in the second quarter of the project in Azerbaijan, a number of legislative projects in the field of food security and phytosanitary control were prepared or considered, the existing IT data collection system was analyzed and recommendations were given. Gintaras Lapinskas said that within the framework of the upcoming work, work on the preparation or consideration of relevant legislative projects will be continued, as well as specialists and laboratory inspectors will be involved in the trainings.
The goal of the twinning-project is to contribute to improving food and feed safety in Azerbaijan and expanding export opportunities in line with improved sanitary and phytosanitary standards. The project provides for further harmonization of national food legislation with the legislation of the European Union, improvement of control mechanisms for plant protection products, as well as the development of an IT-based phytosanitary information system.-0-
