Faramaz Allahverdiyev begins hunger strike
An imprisoned journalist, Faramaz Allahverdiyev, intends to begin a hunger strike on March 5, sewing up his mouth. In this way, he will protest the decision of the Supreme Court on February 19, which considered his complaint in his absence.
According to the lawyer of Fariz Namazly, the complaint was against the decision of Baku Appeals Court, which refused to hold the re-judicial inquiry on October 30.
The lawyer believes that without judicial inquiry the consideration of an appeal is a mere formality.
Allahverdiyev was arrested on April 17, 2012, and on August 22, he was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison on charges of illegally crossing the border (Article 318) and 220 (call to riot.)
Journalistic organizations believe that Allahverdiyev was arrested for publications on the Facebook, which was interpreted a call to riot. So, after the riots in Guba region on 1 March, 2012 Allahverdiyev wrote on his page, "may be we also burn the villas in Shuvelane? '.
Previously Allahverdiyev was repeatedly arrested, including for a libel for publishing critical materials against the government. -16B06-
