Georgia and Azerbaijan did not agree on 34% of the state border
Baku / 02.04.19 / Turan: Georgia and Azerbaijan have not yet agreed on 34% of the state border, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.
"At the level of state commissions on delimitation, 66% of the border has been agreed and negotiations continue to harmonize the remaining segments," the Foreign Ministry quoted the publication apsny.ge.
"At present, the parties are renewing the composition of the commissions and in the near future the process will resume (the specific date of the meeting of the commissions has not been determined).
Prior to final delimitation, the former republican / administrative border line existing in the period of the USSR is supposed to be under the state border, in accordance with which the border is protected.
Works on the delimitation of the state border have been conducted since 1995. From the perimeter of the border, the parties agreed at the level of state commissions on delimitation 66% and negotiations are continuing with a view to agreeing on the remaining segments, "the Foreign Ministry said.
The question of the delimitation of the Georgian-Azerbaijani border intensified after the meeting of the presidents of Georgia and Azerbaijan. Salome Zurabishvili during a meeting with Ilham Aliyev said that it was time, after so many years, to complete the solution of the issue related to the border.
The stumbling block remains part of the monastery of David Gareji, partly located on the territory of Azerbaijan. The proposals of the Georgian side to exchange this plot for another territory of Baku are rejected. -02D-
