GUAM countries will prepare a UN resolution on protracted conflicts

Baku / 06.10.18 / Turan: The heads of government of Moldova, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Georgia agreed to intensify efforts to create a transport corridor and a free trade area of GUAM, reads the statement signed on October 5 in Moldova following the meeting of the Prime Ministers of the GUAM member states.

At the final press conference, it was reported that representatives of four countries also signed a Protocol on cooperation between customs services. It refers to the fight against customs offenses related to the movement of goods by air across state borders. The possibility of canceling roaming between Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan was also discussed. The sides also paid great attention to the issues of resolving unresolved conflicts in the territories of the GUAM member states.

"At today's meeting, we noted that, taking into account the unresolved conflicts in the GUAM territory, we must intensify our joint efforts to provide broad international support and respond to the continuing violations of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states," said Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze.

Thus, the GUAM countries will advance in the UN a draft resolution on the resolution of frozen conflicts. "For GUAM countries, it is important not only economic cooperation, but also joint measures to overcome the challenges, and to counter threats. Regional solidarity to ensure security is a top priority," said Moldovan Prime Minister, Pavel Filip.

"It will be easier to find peaceful solutions to territorial conflicts if there are no foreign troops and weapons in the country," he said. He was supported by the Georgian Prime Minister, noting that "Russia continues to undermine our efforts to create better living conditions for our citizens living in the occupied territories. Since the Russian invasion, the population of these regions has decreased fivefold," he said.

In turn, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groysman said that "it is important that all democratic countries consolidate in order to find the tools to repel this aggression," said Groisman. Following the meeting, the customs services of the four countries signed a protocol on cooperation.

It should be noted that on the same day the charter of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, created by Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia in early June, was signed in Tbilisi. The head of the Supreme Council of Ukraine, Andrei Paruby, stressed that all three countries jointly "resist the aggression of the Russian Federation."

According to Moldovan Speaker, Candu, parliamentarians will work together to ensure that all three states will enter the EU as soon as possible, as well as respond to the challenges of regional security. We are talking, in particular, about the protection of territorial integrity, energy independence, repelling threats in the field of cyber security and countering disinformation. -02D-
