Heydar Aliyev forgotten by parliament
Azerbaijani parliament ignored commemoration of the former leader Heydar Aliyev, who died on December 12, 2003. Thus, at this meeting, none deputy say a word about the person they declared their national leader.
The witness and active participant of many important geopolitical changes in the past and the beginning of this century, Heydar Aliyev was twice the head of Azerbaijan: from July 1969 to November 1982 under the Soviet Union; and from 15 June 1993 to 12 December 2003 during the years of independence.
The encyclopedia describes his deeds in the name of strengthening the state and authority (as a country, and his own.) He also built the current system of political control today, subordinating all branches of power to the Presidential Administration (now his son Ilham Aliyev uses the same system.)
Under Aliyev senior the Parliament lost a proportional voting system, and virtually all of the current MPs, including members of the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan", were appointed under the scope of this system. -17D—
