Human rights activists ask the European structures to remember the case of Elnur Seyidova
Ten human rights defenders of the country sent an appeal to EU Commissioner for Human Rights Muznieks, the PACE rapporteur on political prisoners Strasser, head of the European Commission office in Azerbaijan Roland Kobia, and the head of the OSCE Office, Koray Targay.
The paper calls them on to keep the focus on the fate of Elnur Seyidov, a relative of the party leader of the Popular Front, groundlessly arrested in connection with the case of embezzlement in the "Texnikabank."
The appeal noted that Seyidov is kept in the pre-trial jail of the National Security Ministry (NSM), and his health has been seriously undermined. Recently the head of "Texnikabank" Etibar Aliyev was released, and keeping under the arrest his subordinate, at least, is not logical.
The investigation revealed that Seyidov did not commit crimes, but the numerous petitions of lawyer requesting to change measure of restraint, and release Seyidova due to his illness, are ignored.
All this gives reason to believe that the arrest of Seyidov is political, reads the appeal. -02D-
