Human rights in Azerbaijan to be discussed in Washington
The international human rights organization Freedom House and the Foundation Open Society organize discussions on the deteriorating human rights situation in Azerbaijan in Washington D.C. on October 27.
As stated in Freedom House, the debate will be held from 12:30 to 14:00 local time (in Baku it will be at night).
The moderators of the meeting will be: Freedom House President David Kramer, an analyst at the Foundation Open Society Gerald Knaus and the Foundation’s Administrator for Europe and Eurasia Paige Alexander.
The report recalls that the debate is caused by the sharp deterioration in the human rights situation in Azerbaijan over the past year, the continued pressure from the authorities on civil society, and arrests of human rights activists and journalists.
Note that these are the third such hearings on Azerbaijan in Washington this year. -16D-
