Ibrahim Ibrahimli Demands to Punish People who Attacked Him
Prominent opposition leader, a member of the Coordination Council of the Public Chamber, Ibrahim Ibrahimli, called it "immoral", an organized and attack on him on April 5 in Nakhchivan. At today's press conference, he said that he traveled to Nakhchivan to attend the funeral of his nephew.
"My kidnapping and beating by police authorities is the reaction of authorities to our struggle for democracy, but these methods do not force me to give up this fight," he said.
The politician believes that the current regime is not able to carry on the struggle by democratic means. The authorities are leading the country to chaos, and the only way to stop it is the consolidation of democratic forces.
On 5 April Ibrahimli arrived in the village of Tumbul in Babak region. At that time, police officers in civilian clothes arrived there, and began to accuse him. To avoid confrontation, Ibrahimli left the village, but near the village of Uzunoba his car was stopped. He was taken by force into another car, and drove to Duzdag, where he was beaten by police officers.
The next day, Ibrahim sent a complaint to the Prosecutor General and the Interior Ministry. He also underwent a medical examination, the results of which will be published in the coming days.
Ibrahimli intends to bring the matter to the European Court of Human Rights. The lawyer Fuad Agayev regarded the attack on Ibrahimli as a criminal offense, a "kidnapping."
However, Ibrahimli does not believe that the authorities of Nakhchivan will objectively investigate the case.—05C06--
