Igor Muradian: Russia prepares to hand over Karabakh to Azerbaijan
Yerevan/16.08.13/Turan-ArmInfo: Armenia and Georgia will eventually join the EU and NATO, but Azerbaijan will not, said Igor Muradian, one of the founders of the separatist movement in Nagorno-Karabakh. He is convinced that Russia is no longer able to serve as the sole guarantor of the security of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. Such a situation is due to the interests of the ruling elite, which respects the views of Turkey and Azerbaijan.
He believes that Russia knowingly sells weapons to Azerbaijan and the supplies will continue on an even larger scale. Speaking on the refocusing of Yerevan, Muradian has expressed confidence that the Association Agreement between Armenia and the EU will be initialed in November.
Since 2010, Armenia and the EU are negotiating on creating a deep and comprehensive free trade area, which will complete before the November summit of the Eastern Partnership in Vilnius.
The document will replace the Eastern Partnership program and EU-Armenia Action. The purpose of the agreement is the political association and gradual economic integration with the EU.
"Today, there is a serious pressure on Russia Yerevan to prevent this scenario. There is a pressure there, but Moscow did not know what levers to apply for this. While they are betting on an atmosphere of psychosis and uncertainty in Armenia," he said. Muradian explained the interest of NATO and the West to Armenia by the fact that the West intends to use Armenia in order to "lock and isolate Turkey." -02D-
