Ilham Aliyev Received Islamic Countries Ambassadors for Ramadan

August 13, President Ilham Aliyev received Muslim countries ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions for the occasion of holy Ramadan.

During the meeting, Aliyev said that Azerbaijan's foreign policy attaches special importance in cooperation with Islamic countries. "We stand for the position of Muslim countries in all international organizations, and the mutual support further strengthens us.

I should also note that we deepen cooperation not only bilaterally, but also in the framework of international organizations. We constantly feel the support of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. This mutual support is very important at the United Nations. Last year, Azerbaijan was elected as a member of the UN Security Council. In these elections, Muslim countries played an important role. The vote in  support of Azerbaijan by 155 became a manifestation of respect for the Muslim world.

We constantly feel the support from Muslim countries in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. This support is very important to us. As you know, for many years, the rules of international law have been grossly violated. Violated are the internationally recognized borders of our country. Genocide was committed against Azerbaijanis. Official recognition of the Khojaly tragedy as genocide began again with the Muslim world. The Khojaly genocide was first recognized as genocide by the Pakistani state, and for this we wish to express our gratitude to this brotherly country," he said.

"We in Azerbaijan also attach great importance in strengthening Islamic solidarity. The need is great, especially at this present time.

A positive evaluation by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation of the processes taking place in Azerbaijan is even more encouraging for us. Islamic values are dear to us. At the heart of our national values are Islamic values.

Of course, we must strive to ensure that the entire Muslim world has rallied more closely to solve the problems facing us. In future, we can assist and support each other even more. In all Muslim countries, we want to see peace and quiet, so that no blood is shed and no civil war unleashed. We will continue to protect and defend the position of the League of Arab States in the UN Security Council," said Aliyev. -02D-
