Ilham Aliyev: The fall in oil prices is a "thought policy" (Video)
The main cause for the change of the rate of manat was three-fold drop in oil prices, stated President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the meeting with sportsmen honored in 2015.
According to him, the fall of the country's oil revenues negatively affects the national currency. That is, the change rate of manat was inevitable, he said. "During a year, we tried to prevent it, waiting for the stabilization of oil prices. When the price has stabilized at around $50, we calmed down, believing there will be no need for a devaluation. But now the price of oil fell to $36. The latest decision of the United States associated with the dollar rate is also serves for the decline in oil prices. There are some other geopolitical factors," said Aliyev.
In his view, there are not natural economic grounds for the sharp decline in oil prices.
"However, the world economy has weakened, the pace downed slightly, but not so that the price for oil fell by three times. Personally, I think it is a thought policy, and its purpose is not a secret, and Azerbaijan suffers from this," Aliyev said, without specifying who the author is and what is the purpose of this "treacherous" policy. -06D-
