In Sheki Police Prevented PPFA Action
On Sunday, police in the city of Sheki prevented a meeting of the leadership of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA) being held with local activists.
As the regional correspondent of Turan reported, the meeting, attended by about 60 people was held in the yard of a private house of the manager of the Sheki district organization of the Popular Front Party Ali Abdullayev.
However, as soon as the meeting began, the police broke into the yard and began to disperse the gathering into the street.
In this case, the landlord Ali Abdullayev, a member of the Presidium of the Popular Front Sahib Kerimli and correspondent for Turan Mamedsadig Fataliyev, who was filming what was happening to prepare a report, were arrested and taken to the district police.
The journalist was detained, despite the presentation of his business card.
Three hours later, all the detainees were released.
Subsequently, police management apologized to the Turan reporter "for the misunderstanding."
Popular Front activists were also told that the police intervention was carried out in order to avoid confrontation, as a group of local residents protested against the arrival of the opposition.
However, according to PPFA, especially trained people were sent to the Abdullayev house by the local authorities.
Earlier, police similarly disrupted the meeting with the leadership of PPFA in Sabirabad and the Nij village of the Gabala region. -06D-

"The whole question is about the timing, we need to understand how effectively and correctly to turn such topics into a subject of discussion right now," the Armenian Prime Minister added.

On August 31, Azerbaijan observes a "day of silence" before the Sunday’s early parliamentary elections for the unicameral Milli Majlis. All electoral campaigning is prohibited 24 hours before the voting. The early elections were initiated by the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party. This decision was motivated by the overlap of the scheduled elections in November with the global UN forum - the COP20 climate conference taking place in Baku.
