Intellectuals Forum: Government on Edge of Abyss
Forum of Azerbaijani Intelligentsia (FAI) issued a statement about the political situation in the country, which lies on the authorities being responsible for the deep crisis affecting all aspects of society and the total violation of the rights of citizens.
In particular, the statement noted that the persecution of citizens for their political views acquired systemic. The country has not only effectively banned freedom of assembly, freedom of movement, but also the opposition-minded people.
FAI condemns the arrest on trumped up charges of youth activists of NIDA and other organizations, as well as believers.
According to the statement to the authority's freedom of the press, attempts to economic strangulation of the newspapers Azadlig and Yeni Musavat, the prosecution of chief editors of Khural and Tolyshi Sado – Avaz Zeinally and Hilal Mamedov and other journalists.
At the same time, the statement expressed regret at the actions of some unscrupulous press officers, who brought his pen and conscience as a sacrifice and greed have become a tool in the hands of the authorities.
The most dangerous threat to the national interests is corruption, in which the ruling elite are mired.
FAI condemns the inaction of the authorities in connection with the deaths of the soldiers will not stop.
According to the statement on dealing damage to the country's image in the international arena as a result of attacks by pro-government officials and the media and the promotion of their ridiculous accusations by the U.S. National Democratic Institute, the OSCE Office in Baku, Germany and other Western states.
As the authors of the statement, arrests of citizens on trumped up charges can not be intimidated in society and make him come to terms with the soldiers' deaths, corruption crimes "offshore disgrace" and by numerous transgressions.
"We declare that the number of citizens who are tired of lawlessness authorities is more than the number of prison places! It is impossible to intimidate people whose lives are due to material and moral deprivation turned into hell, and that there is no difference between prison and freedom! We remain committed to our mission of intellectuals and once again warn the authorities of Azerbaijan: wake up, because you're on the edge of the abyss!" the statement concluded. -03D06-
