International organizations condemn the verdict to B.Mamedov
The Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch condemned the court decision on the imprisonment to 10 years, youth activist Bayram Mamedov for graffiti on the monument to Heydar Aliyev. "The Azerbaijani authorities continue to show extreme intolerance towards freedom of expression, and does not hide the intention to silence anyone wishing to criticize or speak the truth," reads the representative of AI Denis Krivosheev.
In turn, the representative of HRW Giorgi Gogia said that political satire in Azerbaijan banned and severely penalized. The court's decision in the case of 21 year-old Bayram Mammadov indicates the absence of the country's fundamental rights and freedoms.
Earlier, a court in Baku rules the imprisonment to 10 years another activist - Giyas Ibrahimov. These young people together painted the political slogans on the monument to Heydar Aliyev in the center of the capital, for which he had been accused of trafficking heroin, and were convicted.-02D-
