Jamil Hasanli Re-elected Head of NCDF
Professor Jamil Hasanali has been re-elected as chairman of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) at the 4 June session.
As Hasanli told Turan, the socio-political situation was discussed along with the current and organizational issues.
The discussion was attended by Chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli, Professor Nureddin Mammadli, Doctor in Philosophy Ali Abbasov, Doctors in Economics Nemat Aliyev and Vahid Maharramli, the former political prisoner Tofig Yagublu and others.
The session adopted an appeal to the people of Azerbaijan.
NCDF elected bodies were formed in the course of the session. Jamil Hasanli was again unanimously re-elected as chairman.
The coordination center of 21 members was formed. Two new members were elected – Vahid Maharramli and the former political prisoner Tofig Yagublu.
NCDF also accepted two new members, Irada Nariman and Ilham Hussein.
One of the topics was a discussion regarding the holding of mass actions demanding to address socio-economic problems, the issues of the Karabakh conflict settlement and the release of political prisoners.
The issue was submitted for further consideration by the coordination center of NCDF.
As Hasanli noted, NCDF considers topical the prosecution of citizens for political reasons. For these reasons, NCDF’s 18 members are in prison or in exile.
In particular, in prison are the journalist Seymour Hazy, PFPA deputy chairman Fuad Gahramanli, the youth activist Ilkin Rustamzadeh and others.
In jails are another 100 political prisoners, the release of which requires
NCDF, including the leader of the Islamic Party Movsum Samedov, theologian Abgul Suleymanov, and the leader of the movement Muslim Unity, NCDF member Taleh Bagirzadeh, re-arrested at the end of last year.
NCDF believes these believers and those arrested together with them are prosecuted on trumped-up charges.
Hasanli also condemned the use of torture against the youth activists Bayram Mammadov and Giyas Ibrahimov arrested for inscription on the monument to Heydar Aliyev.
* NCDF was established in summer 2013 as an association of politicians, public figures, intellectuals and youth movements advocating democratic reforms in Azerbaijan. -06B--
