Jeyhun Bayramov stated conditions for resumption of Embassy activity
Baku/29.12.23/Turan: Resumption of the activity of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran will depend on the results of the trial on the case of attack on the diplomatic mission and Tehran's provision of full security guarantees.
This was stated by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov at a press conference yesterday.
The Azerbaijani side expects that the perpetrator of the offence must be punished severely.
Also, the Iranian side should provide firm guarantees of security of the embassy's activity, the Minister said.
Depending on the results of the trial of the accused in the attack on the Embassy, a subsequent decision will be adopted, he said.
"If the issues I have noted are positively resolved, it will be possible to resume the Embassy's activity," Bayramov said.
Azerbaijan suspended the Embassy' activity in Tehran and evacuated its staff and their families after an armed attack on the diplomatic mission on 27 January this year.
Recall that an armed man, with the full connivance of Iran's security forces, broke into the Embassy, where he killed one guard and wounded two others. One of the wounded guards managed to force the attacker out of the Embassy building. Azerbaijan regarded the attack as a terrorist attack.-03B06-
