Journalist Gunel Manafli interrogated by Baku police
Journalist Gunel Manafli was interrogated on August 6 at the Baku City Police Headquarters (BCHG) as a witness “in the Tolum TV case.”
Her husband, member of the board of the Platform of the Third Republic and the Institute of Democratic Initiatives Ruslan Izzetli, is also a defendant in this case.
As Manafli told Turan, she was asked questions about both Toplum TV and her husband’s activities.
Due to her commitment to keep the investigation confidential, Manafli did not provide details of the interrogation.
“Everyone knows that this criminal case is fabricated and is a custom-made one. I told them so,” Manafli noted.
She worked as a TV presenter at Tolum TV.
* Nine employees of Tolum TV and its partner organization, the Institute of Democratic Initiatives, were detained on March 6-8. They were accused of smuggling foreign currency. Seven people were arrested and two were placed under police supervision.
The defendants in the case deny the charges.
Human rights activists have recognized the arrested as political prisoners.
