Latvia offers Azerbaijan its transport infrastructure
Presidents of Latvia and Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev and Andris Berzins, had one-on-one and then expanded talks with participation of delegations.
Press Service of the President of Azerbaijan issued a brief message about it, according to which the Heads of State noted the lack of problems in bilateral relations and active cooperation, and coordination in international organizations.
Prior to his visit to Baku, Berzins discussed with the Minister of Transport of Latvia, Anrijs Matisse, possible cooperation with Azerbaijan. According to the website of Berzins, the Latvian party intended to invite Azerbaijan to use its transport infrastructure for the transit and storage of Azerbaijani goods.
Riga also considers that for the transportation from Azerbaijan to the Baltic and Nordic countries it is reasonable to use a container train, “ZUBR”, which connects the Ukrainian ports of Odessa and Illichevsk with Latvian Riga, Ventspils and Liepaja, and the Port of Tallinn in Estonia.
Latvia is ready to offer Azerbaijan to develop container transport operations to the Baltic countries and the Nordic countries, and backward. For this the Latvians suggest creating logistics centers.
Latvia is also interested in development of cooperation in the field of cargo and passenger aircraft, and the benefits of international airport "Riga" as a northern European transport hub are highlighted. –06D-
