Law Enforcement Agencies Do Not Comment on Situation Surrounding MNS
Three days after the resignation of the head of the Ministry of National Security Eldar Mahmudov, the authorities have not reported anything new about the fate of the minister and his entourage.
At the same time, all the media, including pro-government ones, citing unnamed sources, report that criminal charges have been filed under articles of the abuse of power by some members of the National Security Ministry, who were arrested.
Attempts to get official comment from the Prosecutor's Office and the Interior Ministry were in vain, though the media write a lot about ten arrested MNS officers, including two or three generals.
In this regard, the experts unanimously say that the authorities are striving to hide the true causes of Mahmudov’s dismissal and the drain in the media about the abuse of power is a desire to hide the true and far more serious crimes.
It's safe to say that the law enforcement system of the country is facing its most serious crisis after revelations of a group of killers headed by Colonel Haji Mammadov in the Interior Ministry in 2005. Ironically, the criminal group was exposed by the MNS already led by Eldar Mahmudov.
Among the versions on the causes of Mahmudov’s dismissal most considered is an economic factor – i.e. extortion of money from big businesses, which led to the undermining of confidence in the authorities in general.
However, experts also agree that such thefts and crimes would not be possible without the connivance of senior management. In this sense, the squandering of billions of manats from the International Bank of Azerbaijan is the most striking example.
We should not accept the actions of the Ministry of National Security management just as a result of greed and gluttony of these law enforcers. The slogan acting at the top for many years sounds simple: Get rich, but be committed!
The former Parliament speaker Rasul Guliyev, ex-ministers Ali Insanov and Farhad Aliyev, Eldar Makhmudov himself and all the current members of the Cabinet believed in this slogan.
However, they might think about that now. -02B-
