Lawyer Meets with Mehman Aliyev in Baku Detention Center No 1
Baku / 29.08.17 / Turan: The lawyer Fariz Namazli met with the Director of Turan News Agency, Mehman Aliyev in Baku Pretrial Detention Center No1 today. Namazli told Turan Agency that, after Aliyev"s transfer to the pretrial detention center on August 28, Aliyev underwent a medical examination and has no health problems.
"The meeting lasted about two hours, and we discussed issues related to the investigation. There were no grounds for the arrest, and the presented primary evidence does not have a legal basis," the lawyer said. Aliyev keeps cheerfulness of spirit and passes it to his colleagues and those who supported him. On August 30, the appeal against Aliyev"s arrest will be considered.
Note that on August 29 the Department of Preliminary Investigation of Tax Crimes of the Ministry of Taxes continued interrogation of Turan Agency"s employees for many hours.
* Mehman Aliyev was detained on August 24. The next day he was charged under Articles 213.1 (tax evasion), 308.1 (abuse of official powers) and 192.2.2 (illegal business with a large income) of the Criminal Code. The court selected a preventive measure against him in the form of arrest until November 7. Aliyev rejected all the accusations and called them politically motivated.
International organizations condemned Aliyev"s arrest and called for his immediate release. The US State Department also called for the immediate release of Mehman Aliyev. Concern about Aliyev"s arrest was expressed by the French and British Foreign Ministries, which called on the Azerbaijani authorities to fulfill their international obligations in the field of human rights. -06D--

On January 16, the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons of Azerbaijan reported that 32 families, totaling 153 people, returned to Jabrayil.
