Medical Aircraft Crashes into Philadelphia Residential Area, Six on Board
A small medical aviation aircraft, a LEAR-55, carrying six people, including crew members, crashed into a residential area in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S. broadcaster CBS reported on Thursday.
Fox News reported that the crash site caught fire, damaging a gas pipeline and exacerbating the spread of flames to nearby homes. The aircraft reportedly disappeared from radar screens just 30 seconds after takeoff.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said in a post on social media platform X that he had been briefed on the incident, spoken with Philadelphia’s mayor, and pledged to allocate necessary resources for assistance.
Emergency responders are working at the scene to contain the fire and assess casualties. Authorities have yet to provide details on the condition of those on board or any potential victims on the ground.
