Minsk will host a summit of CIS leaders
The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev left Friday morning for a CIS summit in Minsk. The upcoming meeting will be a key activity under the presidency of Belarus in the Commonwealth this year. In 2012. the summit was held in Turkmenistan ( Ashgabat ) . It is expected that the next chairman of the CIS (since January 2014 ) will be Ukraine.
According to RBC, the meeting of the Board will be held initially in a narrow format (Heads of State and Executive Secretary of the CIS ), and then in an expanded format , that is, with the participation of official delegations. Yesterday the Belarusian capital hosted a Board meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth , which coordinated the agenda.
The summit's agenda covers the most important issues of cooperation in the economic, humanitarian and law enforcement fields. The focus of the meeting will be on strengthening the economic relations of the CIS. The growth rate of the economies of the CIS in 2012 was up to 3.4 % - more than the world average ( 3.2%). The total volume of foreign trade with third countries reached 1.28 trillion USD. The trade between the CIS countries was $ 280 billion (2011 - $ 282.5 billion, 2010 - USD 206.3 billion).
In addition, they will discuss the preparations for the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. As expected, the leaders will announce Jubilee 2015 the Year of Veterans in the CIS. The session will examine samples of awards on the occasion of this anniversary.
It is also planned to proclaim 2014 Year of Tourism in the CIS, and the cultural capitals of the CIS in the coming year will be the Kyrgyz city of Osh and Kazakhstan's Alma- Ata.
It is assumed that during the meeting CIS will examine a number of documents on security and cooperation in the field of law enforcement.
According to the Russian initiative, they are prepared to sign an agreement on the formation of the Interstate Council for Anti-Corruption, which will coordinate in this area.
Expected to be approved medium-term programs of international cooperation in important areas such as the fight against crime ( calculated for 2014 - 2018 ), terrorism ( 2014 2016 ), drug trafficking ( 2014 2018) and human trafficking ( 2014-2018 ). All of these documents are replacing the expiring ones (at the end of 2013) and will provide further deepening of cooperation in relevant fields.
A new sphere of partnership is combating crime committed through the use of information technology. The concept of cooperation in this field , to be adopted at the summit , is designed to ensure the protection of the CIS countries on the receiving trans-national nature of cybercrime.
The agenda of the summit includes a question on the activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the States - CIS IPA to implement the decisions of the highest statutory bodies of the Commonwealth. The competence of the IPA primarily includes the development of relations between the legislature and the harmonization of the legal framework , says RBC .
The agreement on the establishment of the CIS was signed by Russia, Belarus and Ukraine in 1991. Currently, the Commonwealth comprises 11 countries: Russia , Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus , Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. -0
