MM press service denies ITAR-TASS

The press Service of the Azerbaijani Parliament denied reports by ITAR-TASS saying about the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Oktay Asadov.

According to the agency, Asadov met with the leadership of the State Duma on June 4 and allegedly said that during the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE in Baku, the Azerbaijani side will support the position of the Russian Federation on Ukraine.

"This information is not true," said the MM press service.

The Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation headed by Speaker Oktay Asadov on June 4-5 paid a visit to Russia, where they met with the leadership of the State Duma and the Federation Council. During the meeting the parties discussed the future development of the inter-parliamentary relations, deepening cooperation and regional issues, and the Milli Majlis speaker did not make the above statements, the report said.

"Azerbaijan at different levels openly declared support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and other countries, while stressing that it opposes sanctions against Russia in connection with this matter. Azerbaijan adheres to the resolution of these problems through negotiations within the framework of international law. Modern Azerbaijani parliamentary diplomacy is based on national interests, norms and principles of international law," the MM report says.

It is noteworthy that the Parliament of Azerbaijan does not require the ITAR-TASS news agency published a rebuttal, given the fact that this is a serious scandal. -1606D-
