MPs offer to pardon political prisoners
At today's meeting of the Milli Majlis deputies Gudrat Hasanguliyev, Fazil Mustafa and Iqbal Aghazadeh proposed to pardon political prisoners on the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis celebrated on December 31.
According Hasanguliyev, this initiative is important, at least on the eve of the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which is expected to discuss the issue of political prisoners in Azerbaijan. The country's leadership should not allow the adoption of decisions against Azerbaijan. "The action of humanity is important not in itself, but as a chance to reduce to zero the possibility of enemies to use such questions against Azerbaijan," he said.
According to Siyavush Novruzov, a representative of the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan", Azerbaijan has no political prisoners. Law enforcement agencies are not to blame for bringing to justice representatives of various opposition parties who had committed a "real" crime. International NGOs declare them political prisoners long before the court trial. Against Armenia and Georgia, where the situation is no better, there are not such charges, he said. -17D—
