Musavat Party Leader's Son Released Under House Arrest in Azerbaijan
Baku/19.12.23/Turan: Orhan Hajili, the son of Musavat party leader Arif Hajili, has been granted house arrest, according to lawyer Nemat Kerimli's statement to Turan on December 19. The Yasamal District Court of Baku approved the defense's request for the transfer.
Kerimli explained that the investigation had been ongoing for 50 days, during which the grounds for Orhan Hajili's detention were deemed to have been addressed, leading to the filing of a petition for house arrest. The court, acknowledging the merits of the petition, approved the move.
Arif Hajili, leader of the Musavat party, expressed his satisfaction with his son's release, deeming it a positive development. Hajili linked the recent wave of arrests in the country to his son's initial detention, expressing hope that Orhan's release would mark the beginning of a broader trend of liberation.
Orhan Hajili had been arrested on November 2 by the Yasamal Court of Baku for a duration of two months. The charges against him included violations of traffic rules leading to less serious harm to health under Article 263.1 and abandoning the scene of a traffic accident under Article 264 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. The arrest stemmed from an accident on October 11, where Orhan Hajili was involved due to the fault of another driver.
The decision to release Orhan Hajili under house arrest comes after the court's recognition that the reasons for his initial detention had been addressed during the investigative process. The development is seen as a significant event, with implications for the broader context of recent arrests in Azerbaijan.
