«Musavat urged the Milli Majlis to suspend discussion of the draft law "On Media"
Baku/22.12.21/Turan: The new draft law "On Media" is another step towards stifling freedom of speech and media in Azerbaijan, strengthening political censorship, the statement of the Musavat party.
The Musavat party believes that the adoption of the bill in the second reading without preliminary public discussion is dictated by the government's desire to take full control of the media resources.
“According to Article 55 of the bill, licensing will also apply to the Internet and mobile platforms, which means the introduction of censorship in relation to not only the media and journalists, but all citizens. The inclusion of such reactionary provisions in the law is aimed at limiting the professional activities of journalists and increasing the dependence of the media on the state,” the document says.
The Musavat Party demands to suspend the process of adopting the Law on Media, organizing public discussions of the project with the participation of independent media, and ending the suppression of freedom of speech and expression in Azerbaijan. — 06D-
