"Musavat" urges the authorities to solve the problem of political prisoners
"Musavat" party issued a statement, urging the authorities to finally solve the problem of political prisoners, and pardon hem on the eve of the New Year. "This problem has worsened dramatically the country's image in the international arena," reads the statement. Despite the demands of the local and international community, the issue of political prisoners is not solved for many years.
"Instead, the authorities continue a policy of repression, increasing the number of political prisoners. Today, their number in Azerbaijan, at least 80 people, and the country is leading in the number of '' said the statement.
The party believes that the issue of political prisoners in Azerbaijan has become a matter of national security. The Council of Europe has decided to study the issue. Helsinki Committee of the US Congress adopted a bill on sanctions against the government of Azerbaijan. "The problem of political prisoners weakens the position of Azerbaijan in all issues, including the settlement of the Karabakh conflict", - noted in a statement.
