National Council condemns pressure on Khadija Ismailova
National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) issued a statement in connection with the pressure on the observer of "Azadlig" radio, investigative journalist Khadija Ismailova.
The statement authors express concern and regard this pressure as an attempt to silence her, and stop criticizing the government.
"We believe that the authorities are directed not only against investigative journalist, but are aimed at intimidation of society. The country has serious social problems, the number of suicides is growing, people protest against bureaucratic tyranny and commit acts of self-immolation.
In such a situation the authorities , wanting to change the agenda , create a "spy scandal" in order to distract public attention from pressing issues," reads the statement.
The National Council demanded that the official Baku cease attacks on Khadija Ismailova. -16D04-
