NATO-Azerbaijan Relations Discussed
Baku / 15.05.18 / Turan: Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov during his working visit to Belgium met with the NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathuray, the press service of the Foreign Ministry reported.
According to the report, the meeting expressed satisfaction with the development of the partnership between NATO and Azerbaijan.
James Appathuray thanked Azerbaijan for assistance in the Resolute Support Mission, as well as technical and material support to the Trust Fund of the National Army of Afghanistan. He also highly appreciated the meeting in Baku of the Supreme Commander of the Allied NATO in Europe with the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation. It was noted that an exchange of views took place during the meeting.
Elmar Mammadyarov noted that the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia and the illegal presence of Armenian troops in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan create a serious danger for peace and security in the region.
The sides also exchanged views on the development and prospects of relations between NATO and Azerbaijan, on issues on the international agenda.
Azerbaijan's cooperation with NATO began in 1994, the main part of which is political consultations on military cooperation, military modernization, security, and the implementation of peacekeeping operations. -0-

The next municipal elections in Azerbaijan will take place on January 29, 2025, Mazahir Panahov, the head of the Central Election Commission (CEC), said at a meeting of the commission.
