NATO Secretary General: we will deploy troops wherever we want

The new head of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, took office on October 1 announced during his visit to Poland, the alliance has the most powerful army in the world and it can be deployed wherever the need arises.

"The next year, at a meeting of ministers we will take a decision on the so-called hammer fist, but even before it is established, NATO has already a powerful army. We can place it wherever we want," said the former Prime Minister of Norway 5 October on the Polish TV channel TVP Info. As explained by Reuters, a "striking force" (in English - spearhead) NATO implies a rapid reaction force, the necessity of which is particularly strong on the background of the crisis in Ukraine.

These words appear to be perceived as a statement that the agreement entered into after the end of the Cold War, will no longer be followed due to the actions of Russia in the Crimea and Ukraine, says Reuters. After such a declaration there is an open question as to whether NATO could deploy troops, for example, in Ukraine, to help Kiev deal with the separatists. At the end of August (under the old Secretary General's) NATO ruled out the possibility of a direct military intervention in the Ukraine for fear of conflict with Russia. Moreover, Western countries deny the information about the delivery of "modern weapons" to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, in September in Ukraine there were exercises Rapid Trident 2014, which involved soldiers from 15 countries, including the United States and other NATO members. The alliance said that it is not the organizer of the Rapid Trident.

In addition, Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania have formed a joint combat unit, and the Minister of Ukraine was requested to sign a tripartite agreement on the establishment of the joint forces.

The new head of the alliance also said that the need to adapt to the new situation includes the intention to successfully defend itself in the case of "hybrid war, for example, what we see in Ukraine."

On the creation of a rapid reaction force NATO countries agreed in September at the alliance summit in Wales. There representatives of Great Britain, Latvia, Lithuania, Denmark, Norway, Estonia and the Netherlands signed an agreement of intent, on the basis of which the states will begin preparations for the creation of new rapid reaction force.

The creation of new joint expeditionary rapid reaction force of about 10,000 people was announced by Britain. Earlier it was reported that the creation of these forces is a response to the military action in Ukraine, where Russia wages a hybrid war. -02D-
