NIDA Activists Held for Three More Months
Today Nasimi District Court of Baku extended the term of arrest for three NIDA activists. Rashad Hasanov, Bakhtiyar Guliyev and Shahin Novruzlu will be eligible for release on September 7. Asabali Mustafaev, Hasanov’s lawyer, provided this information.
The investigation has identified the need for an additional extension of the arrest warrant and the need for expert consultation. Mustafaev considers this an unreasonable extension of the arrest and will submit an appeal.
Guliyev and Novruzlu were arrested on March 7. According to the investigative report, drugs and ‘Molotov cocktails’ were found in their apartments. Hasanov was arrested March 14 and charged with illegal possession of explosives.
In the case under investigation there are still four activists NİDA. The defendants are recognized by Amnesty International as «prisoners of conscience».-16B-
