Official Baku rejects Pashinyan's claims that Azerbaijan is preparing for war
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has rejected Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's claims that Baku is preparing to attack Armenia.
In his comments, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ayhan Hajizadeh noted that Armenia kept Azerbaijani lands under occupation for 30 years.
Since the end of the 44-day war, Yerevan's military spending has nearly tripled, from about $600 million in 2021 to $1.6 billion in 2024.
At the same time, Armenia is mainly acquiring offensive weapons capable of striking deep into Azerbaijani territory.
‘Given the persisting territorial claims in the Constitution and legal acts of Armenia, as well as the strengthening of revanchism, the arguments with which Yerevan justifies the build-up of its military potential are insincere and pose a direct threat to Azerbaijan's security,’ Hajizadeh said.
He also emphasised the groundlessness of Yerevan's claims about the community of Western Azerbaijan, whose main goal is the safe and dignified return to the lands from where Azerbaijanis were expelled.
‘The Armenian Prime Minister's refusal to recognise this right under various pretexts, once again demonstrates the level of cruelty of this country, where Azerbaijanis once made up the bulk of the population, and now there are none of them left,’ Hajizadeh said.
